Hello Hurricane

I had one of those bad days. The type where you wake up and it’s raining and you let the rain cloud follow you around all day even after the sun comes out. One of those days where you don’t feel the best and you let your mind run wild with lies. It was one of those days where you barely get a wink of sleep and have every second scheduled and packed into the limited hours of daylight. A typical bad day. It wasn’t til the end that I decided to redeem it. I was pulling out of my driveway and the song “Hello Hurricane” came on.

“Hello hurricane
You're not enough
Hello hurricane
You can't silence my love
I've got doors and windows
Boarded up
All your dead end fury is
Not enough
You can't silence my love
Yeah my love”

It’s not enough. Let that sink in. If we have someone that loved enough to die on the cross for us then what could possibly be bad enough to rob us of our joy? It’s not enough. That’s the simple answer. It doesn’t matter what happened in your day, or what happened in my day. We don’t need to compare who had the worst day. Nothing trumps what Jesus did on that cross.
There are many answers to the typical question, “Why does God allow pain and suffering in the world?” I’ve found there is something quite beautiful seeing the dark. It makes the light so much brighter. Every bad thing that happens shows me a life without Jesus, and it makes his love so much sweeter. I see both paths and I get to see where they lead. And I get to choose the one that leads me to Jesus. The bad so bad makes God’s good so GOOD.  Why is chocolate so amazing? Because we’ve tasted Brussel sprouts. Every bad day makes me even more grateful for a God that is better than my bad days.  So I learned an important lesson.

Choosing Joy is choosing to follow Jesus.

And every bad day can be redeemed by gratitude, worship, and a transformed point of view.

The beauty of this gospel thing is that we can have the greatest joy even without any reason in the world to smile. That’s what redemption did. There’s nothing more beautiful than someone praising in the middle of a storm.

So hello hurricane.
You’re not enough.
